Introduction
Energy efficient buildings are the futureThe issue of climate change and the debate over whether the planet is experiencing a natural cycle of global warming and cooling is no longer the fundamental issue. When global warming was first identified the debate centred around the increase in CO2 emissions over the past decades, primarily from the use of fossil fuels, and the future impact of this continued increase is likely to have on our planet in relation to increased temperatures, rising sea levels and significant weather events.
It is said that the Carbon reduction revolution needs to be three times faster than the rise in labour productivity that was experienced in the Industrial Revolution.
Under the Climate Change Act the United Kingdom currently has a legal requirement to reduce carbon emissions by at least 26% by 2020 & 80% by 2050 with 1990 being the baseline
The fundamental issue now is for businesses to reduce their Carbon Operating Footprint and to review the manner and methods adopted when using energy to operate their businesses.
The simple fact that energy costs have increased at an alarming rate over the past few years is impelling businesses to maximise the efficiency of their energy usage. Who knows where energy prices will be in ten years time!?
We see our business as crucial in the process of advising, designing, installing and maintaining energy efficient building service solutions. The use of renewable energy is fundamental to this.
The current and inevitable increase in government legislation and regulation in the future will doubtless augment this development.
Through our “Carbon Usage and Reduction of Emissions†(CURE) programme we seek to constantly review, update and expand our knowledge of the building services we design and install, together with the impact legislation and modern practices have.
